About me
My name is Jose, and I'm the creator of Font-Generator.com. I'm a software engineer based in Barcelona, Spain, with a long-standing passion for typography, creativity and building accessible tools on the web. If you are interested in my work outside this project, you can also find me on GitHub if you like.
I launched this project to make stylish text and fonts easy and safe for everyone to use: with no downloads, no barriers, and no risk of malware. What started as a small section has grown into a platform trusted by tens of thousands of people every day around the world.
The story behind Font-Generator.com
The idea for this website began back in 2006, when I was just 10 years old and started a personal technology blog in Spanish. Among my posts, I shared links to tools known back then as “weird makers”, i.e. text generators that converted normal letters into Unicode characters that looked similar (e.g. A → Λ, c → ©). These were hugely popular for creating cool nicknames for online games, forums and chats like MSN Messenger, MySpace or AIM.
I quickly noticed that many of those tools offered limited options and were unreliable, full of intrusive ads, or even unsafe. To provide a better option, I built my own generator and hosted it directly on my blog. The tool gained traction, and by 2011 I decided to create a dedicated website for the text generator.
This first version was available only in Spanish and contained a few styles to copy and paste, but over time I expanded the site with new styles, fonts and symbols, as well as all the multiple languages currently online.
From about 500 visits per day in 2011, the site steadily grew to tens of thousands of visits daily. Since its launch in 2011, Font-Generator.com has been trusted by more than 150 million visitors worldwide, generating over 1.5 billion pageviews. I'm very grateful to all these users who have used and shared the website over the years.
