Which one to use

Subscript
Letters and digits lowered below the line. Unicode only has some letters, so b, c, d, f, g, q, w, y and z stay full size.
Subscript with small caps
The same, with small capitals for the missing letters, so the whole word looks small even if it doesn't all drop below the line.
Digits and symbols
Only numbers and + − = ( ) go below the line, for chemical formulas like H₂O and CO₂.

Where it works

  • Instagram, X and Discord
  • WhatsApp and Telegram
  • Word, Google Docs and notes
  • Facebook names, which only allow plain letters
  • Accents like é and ñ are added as a separate mark, which some apps place slightly off
  • Screen readers may read it letter by letter or skip it

Use our Subscript Generator to drop letters, numbers and symbols below the line: chemical formulas like H₂O and CO₂, math indices like x₁ and aₙ, and footnote-style notation. Choose full subscript, a version that fills the missing letters with small capitals, or numbers-only, then copy and paste the result anywhere. To raise text instead, use the superscript generator, or try the small text generator for other tiny styles.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Why do some subscript letters look normal?
    Unicode only has subscript versions of a few letters (a, e, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, r, s, t, u, v, x) and the digits. The second style fills the gaps (b, c, d, f, g, q, w, y, z) with small capitals so the line looks even.
  • Can I write ions and compounds like Ca²⁺ or Fe₂O₃?
Yes. Digits and + − = ( ) all have subscript forms, so formulas like Fe₂O₃ work. For the raised charge, generate it with the superscript generator and paste both parts together.
  • Is it the same as the subscript button in Word or Google Docs?
No. In documents, use the real format (Ctrl+= in Word, Ctrl+, in Google Docs). This generator is for places without formatting buttons, such as Instagram, X, Discord, WhatsApp or plain-text fields.
  • Where can I use these subscript letters?
Our copy-and-paste fonts work on any platform with text input — from social media to chats to documents. Simply copy the style you like and paste it anywhere.
  • Are these fonts free to use?
Yes, it's free. Every Unicode text style can be generated, copied, and shared with no fees or limits.
